Citrix-Swisscom-Fastweb and DaaSC
For days we have been hearing about Swisscom’s takeover bid for our Fastweb, while a desktop and application virtualization project between Swisscom and Citrix is underway.
Maybe soon we will have a serious offer of virtual office in Italy?
The project with Citrix currently operates with 25 Citrix XenApps for 25000 concurrent users, provides XP-based virtual desktops with about 100 applications, including Siebel/Samba, Microsoft Office, SAP.

In addition, the first product line of the future can already be glimpsed within “Swisscom IT Services”: the administrators have already installed the preview of “Project Apollo”. Under this codename, Citrix is developing technology for virtual provisioning of high-end application graphics using the ICA protocol. Swisscom employees test graphics acceleration with various applications and were impressed by the initial results.
“With the new technology, the transparency and 3D effects of Windows Vista Aero and multimedia applications such as Google Earth can be presented at a high-performance level,” said Patrick Kaeslin, Head of Front End Engineering, Swisscom IT Services AG.
